Top 5 Ways to Keep Your Feet Happy In Winter

Naomi Rohr   >  19 June 2019

Winter has well and truly hit our Australian shores and with it? Permission to ignore grooming from the shoulders down.

Shaving legs? Optional. Bikini Wax? Nope. Pedicure? No way Jose. Ah it’s a freeing feeling, isn’t it?

Before you curl up satisfied with the 3-month beauty hibernation ahead of you, you might want to rethink scrapping the pedicure.

In actual fact, your feet need a whole lotta love come winter. All the heavy socks and sturdy shoes can cause cracked heels, stanky, sweat-logged feet and more.

Instead, treat yourself to these happiness-inducing, foot-friendly wins.

#1 Homemade Foot Scrub

There’s something so decadent about a foot scrub isn’t there? In actual fact, it’s something we should all do here and there. By scrubbing those feet of yours, you are removing dry skin and allowing new, soft skin cells to make their way to the surface.

Even better when it’s homemade! It’s so easy too. All you need is ¾ cup of Epsom Salt, ¼ cup Coconut Oil and a couple of drops of your favourite essential oil. My fav combo is Sweet Orange, Ylang Ylang and Patchouli but you can literally use anything.

Mix in a bowl and scrub away. Bliss!

#2 Moisturise and Oil

It seems like a no-brainer but how often do you forget to moisturise your feet? I’m SO guilty of this. The best way is to do it while your feet are slightly damp from the shower/bath. Your pores will be open and ready to receive all of that hydrating goodness. While you're at it, add a little cuticle oil to those toes. This will keep those hooves soft, supple and flaky free.

#3 Get The Pedicure

I know, I know, no one sees your feet in winter so it seems wasted but that it ain’t. Your feet will look pretty for YOU which is next level in self-care ass kickery in my books. AND, all of those problem areas we forget about will be addressed by a professional while you sit on your butt and do nothing. WINNING.

#4 Nourish Yourself

It may seem tempting to gorge on chocolate and stocky food in Winter BUT this can wreak havoc on your skin. Instead, eat a whole lotta veggies, drink water (aim for 8 glasses) and stay ‘treat wise’. MEH, I know. I wish we could survive on cake and ice-cream but we just can’t ladies. So, break it up with the good stuff. Your shiny feet with thank you for it.

#5 Wear Comfortable Shoes

Heels in winter are like skivvies in summer, you can give it a whirl but you’re gonna be uncomfortable. Since I’m over 6ft, heels just never make an appearance. If you do like a little height, try a chunky heel or a wedge. These will support your feet without the corns and bunions that go hand in hand with squishing your feet into itty bitty, pointy, heeled shoes.
