We are proud to have a family of amazing retail stockists across Australia, and we thought it would be a perfect opportunity to showcase the stores and the amazing women behind them. We sat down and had a chat with the beautiful Jordie, half of the mother-daughter duo (Helen & Jordan) from Chaos and Karma in central west NSW to have a quick chat about their store.
WHAT SORT OF STORE IS CHAOS AND KARMA?
Our store is filled with our original art & garden sculpture. Boutique with ladies fashion and kids. Cowhide bags & accessories. Jewellery, giftware, avaracs and so much more. We love the unique, we love the country and we love our local community.
WHAT INSPIRED YOU TO START YOUR BUSINESS?
We had been doing the markets for a couple of years selling our arts and decided we would take the leap of faith and open our little boutique.
HOW LONG HAS THE BUSINESS BEEN OPEN FOR?
The shop has been open for nearly 1 year, May will be our first anniversary!
WHAT DO YOU LOVE ABOUT YOUR BUSINESS?
That we are a mother-daughter team which brings us closer, and we have a little bit of everything we love and things which we make ourselves.
HOW DOES A TYPICAL DAY FOR YOU UNFOLD?
We usually start with a cup of tea, a quick tidy around the store before getting our creative energy flowing making earrings or working on some art. Lovely chats with our amazing customers and rearranging the store three times!
WHAT LITTLE THING IN LIFE GIVES YOU JOY?
All the little things; compliments on our shop or any of our work, our three black cats, family, and for Helen a good coffee.
HOW DO YOU RECHARGE YOUR BATTERIES?
A cup of tea at the end of the day is our ritual which we both sit down for, maybe the occasional caramel Tim Tam. But a day outside enjoying the sun on our face or a sneaky weekend away.
WHAT PROMPTED YOU TO PUT AVARCAS AUSTRALIA ON YOUR SHELVES?
I had started seeing them everywhere, I got a pair myself and was sold. Since we opened I have brought 4 pairs and have no intention of stopping. Naomi was one of the very first brands we emailed to become a stockist when we decided to open the store and a few months down the track our first order arrived.
WHAT ARE YOUR FAVOURITE AVARCAS?
Jordie; Navy glitter, I wear them everywhere even if they don’t go with what I’m wearing.
Helen; Vintage tan cause they go with everything.
GETTING THERE
Getting to Orange is easy. The drive west from Sydney through the World Heritage-listed Blue Mountains is approximately 258 kms. You’ll find plenty of places to stay, award-winning restaurants, boutique shops, beautiful gardens and bustling markets, all set in the shadow of a striking ancient volcano.
